Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Monumental Stairs Feasibility Study
Pasadena, California
PBWS performed a feasibility study of the Monumental Stairs that lead to the main administration building at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. The South Stairs of reinforced concrete have deteriorated over time since their construction in the 1960s. PBWS proposed three options including minor repair, partial replacement, and complete replacement. The latter includes the event platforms at various levels to provide disabled access, additional seating areas, planters, and surrounding low water landscape. It also includes the relocation of the iconic JPL sign often used as a photo backdrop.
